Full Moon in Aries — 27 September 2026 in Brisbane

There is rather a lot going on in Mars’ house this weekend.

Our lovely Full Moon has marched into Aries - round, luminous and rather formidable, taken one look around and apparently decided that a few things need sorting out.

Fortunately, Mars is available.

Well… sort of.

Mars is currently staying in Cancer, the Moon’s own house, while the Moon is visiting Aries, Mars’ house.

In astrology we call this mutual reception by domicile.

And I rather like the image.

The Moon arrives at Mars’ place concerned about her brood.

“Some of them still aren’t getting what they need.”

Mars looks up from Cancer.

“I know. I’ve been looking after your house while you’ve been away.”

“Good,” says the Moon. “Then I need a little tough love.”

Mars grins.

Now we understand the Full Moon.

The Moon and Mars are working together

Technically, this is one of the most important features of the chart.

The Moon is in Mars-ruled Aries.
Mars is in Moon-ruled Cancer.

Each planet therefore occupies the other planet's sign.

Mutual reception doesn't mean that everything suddenly becomes easy. Mars is traditionally in his fall in Cancer, so he isn't operating in his most straightforward fashion. Mars wants to act; Cancer asks him to consider protection, attachment, family, belonging and emotional safety before charging through the door.

But that is precisely what makes this interesting.

Aries asks:

What are we going to DO about this?

Cancer asks:

What are we actually trying to protect?

Put those together and we have something considerably more useful than action for action's sake.

We have purposeful action in the service of a need.

And this is where our Needs Analysis comes back into the story.

What do you actually need?

We talk a great deal about what we want.

Needs are different.

We need affection. Security. Safety. Attention. Belonging. Meaning. Challenge. Intimacy. Autonomy. Status. Connection between mind and body.

And the fascinating thing about needs is that they overlap.

Sometimes the thing creating enormous discomfort in our lives is not enormous at all.

It is one small missing piece.

Perhaps a pet quietly supplied affection, companionship, touch, routine, attention and meaning all at once. When that animal is no longer there, we may simply think:

“I miss my dog.”

Of course we do.

But underneath that grief, several human needs may suddenly have become under-supplied simultaneously.

We don't necessarily need to “fix ourselves.”

We need to notice what the missing relationship was providing and find healthy ways of bringing some of those ingredients back into life.

The same thing happens with work, relationships, friendships, homes and communities.

One change can destabilise several needs.

And, rather beautifully, one carefully chosen addition can sometimes begin satisfying several of them again.

That is the sort of practical intelligence I think this Full Moon is illuminating.

Aries says: enough analysis - what are we going to do?

Aries is not famous for holding another committee meeting.

It belongs to Mars.

Something becomes visible under a Full Moon, and Aries immediately wants to know what we are going to do with the information.

So look at your Aries house.

It is extraordinarily busy.

The Moon is here. Neptune is here. Saturn is here. Chiron has returned to Aries in his retrograde cycle. Eris, Pallas Athena and Vesta add further layers to the symbolism.

This is not a quiet little corner of the chart.

It looks rather more like the celestial management team has called an extraordinary meeting.

And the agenda appears to be:

“How are we getting on?”

The Moon has just visited Neptune

This is important.

The Moon at approximately 3° Aries has just separated from Neptune at approximately 2° Aries.

So before she reaches Saturn, she has passed Neptune.

That takes us straight back to the much larger Saturn–Neptune cycle we have been following — a cycle of roughly 36 years.

Neptune can imagine.

Neptune can dissolve boundaries.

Neptune can intuit something before we can adequately explain it.

Neptune can also confuse things beautifully if we are not paying attention.

Saturn asks a rather different set of questions.

Can we build it?
Can it function?
Can it last?
What are the rules?
Where are the boundaries?
What is actually true?

These two enormous planetary principles have begun a new cycle together in Aries.

And now the Full Moon walks directly across that territory.

She has just touched Neptune.

She is moving toward Saturn.

That is almost too perfect symbolically.

First: What did you imagine?

Then:

How is it actually going?

Not because the dream was wrong.

Because dreams eventually require architecture.

Saturn is waiting further along in Aries

The Saturn conjunction is wider - roughly eight degrees from the Moon - but the Moon is applying toward Saturn, not moving away from him.

That matters.

There is unfinished business ahead.

Saturn is not necessarily saying no.

Saturn is asking whether what we are building is structurally capable of supporting us.

And this is where our needs work becomes particularly useful.

If some area of life keeps collapsing, perhaps the question isn't:

“What is wrong with me?”

Perhaps the better question is:

“What requirement have I failed to build into the structure?”

That is a very different conversation.

And much more Saturnian.

Then Chiron wanders back into the room…

Chiron has retrograded back into late Aries.

And that can symbolically reopen something we thought was finished.

Not necessarily because we failed to heal it.

Sometimes we come back to the same subject because we are now capable of seeing another layer of it.

You thought the issue was one thing.

Perhaps it wasn't.

You thought you needed closure.

Perhaps you needed understanding.

You thought you needed independence.

Perhaps what you actually needed was enough dependable support that independence stopped meaning isolation.

That is why I don't particularly like the idea that Chiron simply represents an eternal “wound.”

Wisdom can develop from examining where something hurts, what it is asking for and what we eventually learn to provide.

And Aries doesn't want us endlessly staring at the wound.

Aries wants to know what we are going to do next.

And look who else is in Mars' house

Our mythological supporting cast is rather wonderful.

Pallas Athena brings strategy. Don't merely react; see the pattern.

Vesta brings devotion, tending the flame and maintaining the inner hearth. What needs regular attention rather than another heroic burst of effort?

Eris brings something less comfortable: what has been excluded, ignored, dismissed or refused a place at the table?

And Chiron, half man and half horse, is sitting somewhere nearby thinking of one more piece of wisdom everybody else has overlooked.

No wonder the Moon has called Mars.

There is work to do.

And Pluto opens a door

Now look across to Pluto at approximately 3° Aquarius.

This Full Moon in Aries forms a very close sextile to Pluto, while the Libra Sun forms the corresponding trine.

This gives Pluto an important role in the lunation.

In our modern interpretive framework, I would look carefully at the Aquarius house in your own chart.

Because something there may provide an opening.

An opportunity.

A resource.

A different system.

A new way of thinking about the problem.

And this connects beautifully with the Pluto-in-Aquarius story we have already been following.

Remember our image of Pluto visiting Saturn's Aquarius house?

Saturn likes systems.

Aquarius contains systems too - but systems made from many moving parts, networks, people, technologies, ideas and unexpected developments.

Then Pluto arrives for his very long visit and starts pulling up the floorboards.

What actually works?

Who has the power?

What has become obsolete?

What needs completely rebuilding?

This Full Moon touches that Pluto.

So when you locate your Aries house, don't stop there.

Look at Aquarius as well.

There may be something available there that helps Aries do its job.

Aries and Libra: action without losing equilibrium

And there is another beautiful piece to this Full Moon.

The Sun has only recently crossed the September equinox point at 0° Libra.

Here in Brisbane we have entered spring; in the Northern Hemisphere the same solar ingress marks autumn. Astrologically, however, 0° Libra carries the symbolism of the equinox everywhere: an encounter between opposing but complementary principles.

Aries says:

Me.

Libra says:

Us.

Aries says:

Act.

Libra says:

Consider.

Aries says:

This is what I need.

Libra asks:

How does that affect everything else?

We aren't being asked to choose one and abandon the other.

The Full Moon itself displays the polarity.

And perhaps that is precisely where equilibrium comes from.

Not from never becoming unbalanced.

But from noticing imbalance early enough that we can move intelligently to restore it.

That's very different.

Equilibrium is alive.

It moves.

Venus isn't letting us wriggle out of it either

Venus remains in Scorpio.

Traditionally Venus is in detriment in Scorpio, because she is in the sign opposite one of her domiciles, Taurus.

So this isn't lightweight Venus.

She's not particularly interested in putting some flowers on the table and pretending everything is fine.

Scorpio asks what is underneath.

What do we value enough to protect?

Where have intimacy, trust, resources, attachment or desire become complicated?

What are we pretending doesn't matter when actually it matters enormously?

And perhaps that is useful right now.

Because this Full Moon isn't particularly interested in dismissal either.

Something is being illuminated because it deserves our attention.

Not necessarily our alarm.

Our attention.

There is a considerable difference.

So this weekend, run the Needs Analysis

Before deciding something is hopeless, enormous, broken or impossible, look again.

Which need is not being adequately met?

What used to meet it?

What changed?

What else might satisfy that need now?

And - most importantly under an Aries Full Moon -

what small action could you take?

It doesn't have to fix your entire life.

Perhaps that is the trick.

Sometimes one small addition provides affection and belonging.

One conversation provides reassurance and intimacy.

One new activity provides challenge and community.

One boundary provides safety and autonomy.

One decision restores enough control that everything else suddenly becomes easier to manage.

Mars understands action.

The Moon understands needs.

And this weekend they are answering one another's phones.

The stars work for us

That remains the principle behind everything we do here.

Astrology isn't useful because the planets make our decisions.

It is useful because they can help us recognise the terrain.

This Full Moon illuminates something.

Neptune asks what we imagined.

Saturn asks how we are building it.

Chiron asks what still needs attention.

Pallas looks for the strategy.

Vesta tends what matters.

Eris refuses to leave the forgotten piece outside.

Pluto reveals where deeper change may now be possible.

Venus in Scorpio insists that what matters should actually matter.

And Mars says:

Good. Now what are we going to do about it?

Because this is Aries.

We have energy.

We have information.

And somewhere between what I need and what we need, this equinoctial Full Moon offers us an opportunity to restore enough balance to begin moving forward again.

Sometimes the heavens don't ask for a revolution.

Sometimes they illuminate the one missing thing that makes the rest of the system work.

And that may be quite enough.
